The Institute of Experimental Medicine was consecrated and solemnly opened on December 08, 1890. He was granted the title ‘Imperial Institute of Experimental Medicine’, and Prince A.P. Oldenburgsky was appointed his trustee. The IEM estate is protected by the state, and many of its buildings are architectural monuments. IEM was created as ‘the highest scientific medical institution of the academic type’. Its main task was ‘the practical application of methods to combat diseases and their consequences.’
